Is it technically possible for the Core developers to make Bitcoin "GPU friendly" without a hard fork?
I ask because of the legitimate concern that ASIC miners have taking over a Bitcoin entirely, which not only leads to concerns about centralization (and security) of the mining process but also cuts the typical end-user out of the mining equation (and thus makes decentralisation even less possible). Technically speaking, is it possible to make Bitcoin mineable with GPUs (so that the average end-user has a shot at mining) without a hard fork and also without destroying the current ASIC mining business? Could some of the unused (or underused) Bitcoin operation codes be utilized as flags or instructions to enable GPU mining? Or could any other aspects of the Bitcoin architecture lend itself to facilitating GPU mining without requiring a hard fork? Babs
I built a gaming pc with no gpu. get it? and i need a gpu. I want some moola for some my laptop of course. I was thinking like 1200 shipped. If Bitcoin Gold, also known as Bitcoin GPU, gets any traction at all when the fork occurs it will be feature-rich in exactly the same way as Bitcoin (from which it forks) but also be minable only using GPUs. No ASICS! If this happens what is the value of Vertcoin, commonly heralded as the main GPU coin, in the face of a fork of Bitcoin that is also only minsble using GPUs? Babs
